Vail Travel Information

Vail is situated in the beautiful Colorado Rocky Mountains more than 2,500 metres above sea level, Vail is a scenic ski resort town with over 200 marked ski runs and numerous ski lifts. The city is particularly busy during the winter months but the summer offers a host of activities to enjoy from golf to mountain trekking, Vail is a great holiday destination for tourists all year round.

One of the main reasons to travel to Vail is to enjoy the wonderful opportunities for wintersports on it's great slopes. During December and January the mountains can be very crowded with skiers and snowboarders; it is advised to hit the ski lifts early in the morning and head to the very top of the mountain. Vail's wintersports holidays should also include stopping off at various spots on the mountain is an enjoyable experience, as there are many restaurants and bars available.

Vail Tourist Attractions

If you happen to visit Vail during the summer months there are many fun activities to enjoy. There are six golf courses in the surrounding area and an array of marked trails for trekking and climbing. Just 12 miles from Vail is a fresh water lake with boating and horseback riding available.

Capable skiers amongst the tourists will find the gondola ride is the perfect way to see the mountains without having to physically manoeuvre your way down the slopes. Some fantastic restaurants and bars are perched high on the mountains and offer spectacular views.

Transport Around Vail

If flying to Vail you can land at Vail-Eagle County airport or Denver International. There are taxi and shuttle services available but hiring a car from the airport is a good option. Colorado Mountain Express offers daily bus services to Vail, which should be booked by phone or on the web. The Interstate 70 connects Denver and Vail but be warned that during peak season traffic can be very slow.

The ski resort town of Vail is relatively free from crime with very few occurrences of petty theft. Always be careful of your belongings particularly in the peak season when many tourists are in town.
