What should I do if I have a pre existing medical condition?
If you have pre-existing medical conditions, and would like us to quote to cover the condition/s, please call us on:
0844-338-6306
These will be noted on your travel insurance policy and there may be an additional premium to cover the declared condition unless you opt to exclude claims arising from the condition from your cover.
Any additional premiums for pre-existing medical conditions will need to be paid direct to our underwriters Europ Assistance who will then give you a reference number. You can do this either before or after purchasing your travel insurance policy.
Our travel insurance policies operate on the following basis:
- To be covered, you must be healthy, fit to travel and to undertake your planned trip.
- The insurance will NOT cover you when you are travelling against the advice of a Medical Practitoner (or would be travelling against the advice of a Medical Practitioner had you sought his/her advice).
- The insurance will NOT cover you when you are travelling with the intention of obtaining medical treatmentor consultation abroad.
- The insurance will NOT cover You if You have any undiagnosed symptoms that require attention or investigation in the future (that is symptoms for which You are awaiting investigations/consultations, or awaiting results of investigations, where the underlying cause has not been established)
So if you have or are concerned that you may have a pre-existing medical condition, don't worry cover is still available for pre-existing medical conditions.
What is a pre existing medical condition?
If you are not sure whether you have a pre existing medical condition please read below. If you answer yes to any of the questions below please call Medical Screening.
For the purposes of our travel insurance a pre existing medical condition is:-
Do you (or any person covered) have any pre existing medical conditions or are you aware of any UNDIAGNOSED symptoms that may require attention or investigation in the future?
- Note: This means symptoms for which the person to be insured is awaiting investigations/consultation, or is awaiting results of investigations, and where the underlying cause has not been established
- Unfortunately the underwriters cannot extend the policy to provide medical cover for any person with undiagnosed medical conditions. We will be happy to reconsider an extension of your policy upon receipt of a full diagnosis or full clearance from your doctor.
If YES: Please call back after investigation of the symptoms, medical screening may be needed.
- Have you or anyone travelling under this policy suffered from, been prescribed any medication, received any treatment, or attended any consultations, investigations or follow-ups, for ANY medical or psychological conditions in the last 2 years?
If YES: Medical screening is needed.
- Has anyone travelling under the policy EVER had or received any treatment, investigations or tests for:
- A heart attack, angina, chest pain(s), or any other heart condition or disease?
- High blood pressure, blood clots, raised cholesterol, aneurysm, or any circulatory disease?
- Any form of stroke, transient ischaemic attack, or brain haemorrhage?
If YES: Medical screening is needed.
If ALL the above questions are answered NO then no screening is needed; please proceed with your travel insurance booking.
Please note you must also inform us of any change to your health or medical status should this arise before your trip start date.
