Pensacola Travel Information

Pensacola is positioned on the northwest coast of Florida. Pensacola is a historic beach city with shipwrecks, spectacular vistas and the Naval Air Station Base. Pensacola has been nicknamed the 'City of Five Flags' because of the five different governments that have ruled the area including Spain, France, Great Britain, the Confederate States of America and the United States of America. The city is also famous for beautiful white sand beaches, which can be found along the rugged coastline.

With the area surrounded by great beaches, there are many water sports and activities to enjoy including swimming, surfing, snorkelling and jet skis or just sunbathing on the sand. Perdido Key is situated just 16 miles from downtown Pensacola and is home to a fantastic lagoon area and national park that is filled with natural wildlife.

Pensacola Tourist Attractions

Being situated on the coast, Pensacola has a great choice of fresh seafood which can be sampled at the many seafood restaurants around town. The Fish House is an excellent restaurant with beautiful views over the Pensacola Bay area. The city is also home to some tasty southern American style cooking, with the Global Grill renowned for its fried chicken.

There are many great bars in the downtown area and along the beach boulevard with traditional American saloons, Irish pubs and some more relaxed open-aired beach venues.

Transport Around Pensacola

Pensacola's regional airport currently serves six national airlines which fly to many cities in America including Houston, Memphis, Detroit, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Tampa. Greyhound buses offer daily service from close by regional cities. Self-driving is a great option with some beautiful scenery along the highways to the city. Interstate 10 comes from Jacksonville, Highway 98 runs east-west across the neighbouring gulf and Highway 29 heads south from Alabama.

Pensacola is considered a safe tourist destination with a very low crime rate. It is advised to be wary of your surroundings and keep your valuables safe. If travelling to the beaches be careful of the strong surf. For peace of mind whilst on holiday we strongly recommend that you and your family have adequate travel insurance before departing.
