Denmark is a stunning country that is blessed with natural beauty and a rich and friendly culture. Extremely cosmopolitan and with a modern infrastructure, Denmark has also managed to retain a distinctive old-world atmosphere.

There are a plethora of magnificent churches, historic monuments and extraordinary structures that can be found throughout the country. Denmark also has dazzling coastal islands, a scenic countryside and quaint fishing villages that are complete with thatched cottages and charming piers.

The country is made up of three main islands and several smaller ones, which are all connected by either bridges or ferries. Copenhagen is the most visited destination and sits on the island of Zealand. Funen (Odense) is linked by a short bridge to Denmark's biggest island, Jutland.

Copenhagen is the largest urban centre in Scandinavia as well as the capital city of Denmark. Copenhagen is a city of copper roofs and spires and is filled with historic buildings and vibrant squares. The city has an extensive list of prominent attractions including the Little Mermaid at the harbour entrance, the magnificent Amalienborg Palace and the beautiful Botanical Gardens. Unquestionably, the loveliest attraction in the city is Tivoli Gardens, an 80 hectare garden and amusement park that draws thousands of tourists each year.

Copenhagen is absolutely loaded with great tourist attractions such as important museums and art galleries in Denmark. The National Museum (Nationalmuseet) is a wonderful way to catch a glimpse into Danish history. A visit to the Glyptotek gallery will give art aficionados an opportunity to view one of the most extraordinary art collections in northern Europe. The gallery showcases the masterworks of legendary artists including Van Gogh and Renoir.

Funen (Odense) has been affectionately dubbed as the 'Garden of Denmark', and is home to an amazing number of historic castles in Denmarkand elegant manors. But the true crown and glory of Funen are its ancient parks and mesmerizing gardens. The town is renowned as the birthplace of the great fairytale writer Hans Christian Andersen. The town itself has a fairytale atmosphere as it is filled with wonderful cobble stone streets and enchanting castles surrounded by moats.

In addition, Funen has a number of beautiful beaches, particularly on the southern islands of Langeland, Tasinge and Aero, as well as a great selection of cultural attractions.

Jutland comprises the largest region of Denmark and includes the towns of Arhus and Aalborg. The city is most noted for its beautiful, clean sandy beaches and modern resorts and whitewashed churches.

Although Denmark is an extremely safe destination, if you plan to drive while on holiday or participate in any water sports, we strongly advise you take out travel insurance before you begin your holiday.
