Many UK-based travellers are failing to take out proper coverage on their luggage, a new study has revealed.

The news comes via a recent survey conducted by travel insurance provider LV, which revealed that around 16 per cent of British travellers have travelled abroad without taking out any coverage whatsoever. In addition, an even larger number often holiday overseas without taking out a separate policy that will cover costs related to lost luggage and theft of personal devices such as computers or tablets.

Experts say that many pricier personal possessions are not covered under standard travel insurance policies. Other items that are often neglected by standard policies include jewellery and mobile phones.

Selwyn Fernande said on behalf of LV that it is important for any holidaymaker to closely check their coverage to ensure that their belongings are covered. He went on to add that standard insurance will often cover everyday items but will not extend to a large array of expensive belongings, notably portable electronics.
