There has been another victim in the travel industry because of the economic atmosphere. The latest firm to close their doors to the public has been a Halifax (in Canada) based travel agent, Go Travel South. This will leave many customers seeking some sort of refund, and only if they are eligible to get it. The firm started broadcasting yesterday via their website that it would be ending all operations immediately. Another message clearly told their customers to not show up at airports because there will be no flights available for them to board. It added that those that seeking refunds should contact their credit card company.

The closure of the travel agent is expected to impinge on around 2,000 people who will be keen to receive a refund. For those that paid by cash or debit card it would seem that they might have a little more of a problem getting some kind of compensation. Those that are seeking a refund will have to have a copy of their flight details and itinerary to make a claim. They said that they will still leave the return flights for people who are currently away with them, but all flights departing Canada have been cancelled immediately.

There have been many casualties of the recession in the past 18 months from travel agents, tour operators and even airlines. When they go bust, there are usually not many ways of getting your money back unless the agencies are a member of ATOL or you pay by credit card.
