Terminal clearing brawl at Birmingham
Travel Insurance News - 21/01/2008

Travellers unlucky enough to be present at the Birmingham Airport this past weekend were sent running for their hotel rooms as two rival biker gangs somehow chose the airport as the site for a gruesome showdown, which utilized chains, machetes and iron bars to bash each other to bits. One unfortunate man caught in the fracas took a knife to the head and was critically injured by the blow.

An airport employee reported that, 'There was a large group of men congregating around the arrivals lounge, mostly big, stocky guys and they seemed agitated and looked as though they were waiting for someone. Then, all of a sudden, a few pointed out three large, shaven-headed men who had just got off the Alicante flight and they exploded.

Out came bars, machetes and chains and they really laid into these three men, it was horrific. I've seen fights before but this was different. It was brutal, it was nasty and it was organised. People were screaming, young kids crying their eyes out and they ran for cover, but there was blood everywhere.'

West Midlands Police received a call at 21:35 Sunday night, and rushed to the scene. The gang members had since fled, but were later apprehended by police and are being held for questioning.
