United Airlines delayed a flight to help a man see his mother for the last time.

According to a CNN report published on Sunday, the ordeal took place on 24 January, when San Francisco resident Kerry Drake was told that his mother was on the verge of dying and he needed to travel to Lubbock in Texas as quickly as possible to see her.

Then when his departing flight from SFO airport was delayed, Mr Drake began crying, as he was likely to miss his connecting flight to Lubbock because his scheduled layover was only 40 minutes and it was the last one of the day. His mother was not likely to make it through the night.

However, flight attendants noticed that Drake was clearly upset and relayed his information to the flight’s captain. The crew then sent the information to Houston, where the flight was held briefly until he could board the plane.

Drake told CNN that as soon as he made it on the flight he became very emotional and noted that his luggage even arrived on time.

His mother died the next morning; Mr Drake told the media that he was able to spend several coherent moments with her before she went.
