Thousands of air travellers in North America saw significant delays at the weekend due to a SkyWest computer glitch.

Reporters from the carrier – which operates codeshare flights for major US airlines such including Delta, American Airlines, and United – told the media a that it had suffered a major network disruption on Sunday. The event caused the airline’s flights to remain grounded for nearly two hours during a busy morning.

The snag occurred at about 07:00am Eastern Standard Time and reportedly had caused problems with information systems that provide pilots with critical information in regards to aircraft weight and balance as well as fuel capacity. Officials said that the issue then created a ‘domino effect’, impacting flights throughout the day.

The news comes just three weeks after so-called legacy carrier United Airlines saw yet another technical glitch take a major toll on its on-time performance. The firm has been plagued with such events since it officially merged its systems with Continental Airlines early this yrea amid one of North America’s largest airline mergers in the last decade.
