A recent study has revealed that over half of travellers residing in the UAE never purchase travel insurance.

The news comes via a new report from research group YouGov on behalf of Zurich. Of more than 700 residents, a startling 58 per cent said that they never purchase travel cover whilst about 32 per cent said that it was rare that they do so.

Among those admitting to never taking out cover, 30 per cent say that they opt out of insurance because they believe that they will never have to make a claim. About 13 per cent said that they do not buy coverage because they’ve already received it from their employer, whilst about 24 per cent said that they simply “do not need it”.

Sixty-seven per cent of Arab expats said they never buy coverage, making them the group most likely to travel without it. Conversely, Asian expats were significantly less likely, but nearly half (47 per cent) said that they travel without taking out an insurance policy.

Meanwhile, among those that do buy travel insurance, 56 per cent said that ‘peace of mind’ was the primary reason for taking it out.
