Low-cost carrier Easyjet has seen a rise in profits thanks to higher demand from business travellers.

Officials from the airline announced at the weekend that the firm saw a revenue increase 10.5 per cent over the past quarter alongside a 2.6 per cent rise in passenger totals. In addition, the average fare paid grew to £69.62, compared to £64.65 seen the year prior.

Easyjet shares jumped by 3.7 per cent to 49p on the news Friday, according to The Telegraph.

The carrier’s chief executive Carolyn McCall told the media that she was expecting the firm’s pre-tax earnings for the year leading up to 1 October to surpass £450 million and could reach as high as £480 million.

The news comes amid an ambitious growth effort for the airline; news reports have confirmed that Easyjet is to acquire all of Flybe’s 25 Gatwick-based aircraft by next year. The firm has also recently reached a fresh deal with European planemaker Airbus for 135 new A320 model jets.
