Most people consider travel insurance an important safeguard for long trips and many wouldn’t dream of going on their summer holiday abroad without taking out an all inclusive travel insurance policy.

However, when taking weekend trips, many people overlook the necessity of travel insurance. According to the experts, it is essential to take out travel insurance whenever leaving the country, even if it is simply a weekend ferry trip to France or Brussels.

"People don’t understand that when they go abroad, especially Europe, they’ll patch you up but you won’t get a free ticket home," Perry Wilson, founder of InsureandGo commented recently.

Wilson, goes on to insist that people who neglect to take out this low cost travel insurance are putting themselves and their families at risk, even though it may be entirely unintentional. Not only that, but those who do take out travel insurance risk jeopardizing it by failing to disclose certain aspects of their medical history.

According to recent research, more than a million people with ongoing medical ailments failed to inform their insurance company when taking out a travel insurance policy, while more than 500,000 people with medical conditions neglected to take out any sort of policy at all.
