At the end of this month millions of people who have a European health insurance card (EHIC) will find that their current cards run out.

Every EHIC card is valid for 5 years and it entitles you to state provided healthcare at free or reduced costs when travelling in Europe.

Latest figures show that only 292,089 people have renewed their EHIC card meaning that over 3 million people could be travelling this year with out of date card.

The card was introduced in September 2005 to replace the old E111. To apply to renew your card go online now at nhs.uk/ehic

The NHS who issue the cards also strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance too for your holiday or business trip in Europe and cheaptravelinsurance.com will waive the excess on a policy if an EHIC card is presented at a hospital prior to treatment.
