Those travelling through parts of northeast England and northeast Wales may see disruptions today due to flooding.

Reports said that residents in the region are preparing for the worst as the storm moves northward. The system caused substantial damage in the southwest of England at the weekend, mostly in Cornwall and Devon, where more than 800 homes were inundated by floodwaters.

Those travelling by rail are advised to check with train operators before heading out; some departures have been cancelled, according to officials from Network Rail. Routes likely to see delays through the day on Monday include Derby to Nottingham/Loughborough, Bangor to Holyhead, Durham to York as well as Craven Arms to Shrewsbury.

The Met Office has issued amber alerts for residents of Humber, Yorkshire and northeast England, where as much as 70mm of rain is expected on Monday and into Tuesday morning. Another amber alert is in effect for north Wales, where meteorologists say up to 90mm of rain is likely to fall.

Likewise, the Environment Agency has announced flood warnings for more than 190 areas and alerts for an additional 292 locations.
