About the Resort

Chatel lies near the head of a wooded Dranse valley a the north eastern limit of the French Swiss Portes du Soleil ski circuit. It has expanded but is still an attractive old village.The centre can become crowded with cars. It does have a good bus service. It has a wide range of cheap and cheerful good value accommodation. The local slopes are some to the best in the Portes du Soleil.

About the Mountains near Chatel

Chatel is located between two sectors ot the main Portes du Soleil circuit. Each offering a mix of open and wooded slopes and are linked by a good free bus service. Above the village is Super Chatel, an area of easy open and lightly wooded beginner slopes accessed by either a gondola or two stage chair. The intermediates and experts may wish to visit the Linga area. There are good areas at Pre la Jous and at Super Chatel for the beginners.

Après Ski at Chatel

Chatel is getting livelier, especially at the weekends. It has soem lively music bars and popular British style pubs. There is an adequate number and range of restaurants some beautifully rustic and cosy.
