The deadline for electronic visas that were to be a requirement for travel to Turkey has been extended. Holidaymakers travelling to Turkey this summer where expected to have applied for an e-visa before travelling as the original deadline was 10th April. It was to become a requirement for visitors who would no longer be able to buy the visa on arrival.

The extension has been agreed with the Turkish authorities after a period of negotiations with the Association of British Travel Agents. A spokesman from ABTA said 'We are pleased to advise that today we have received official confirmation from the attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey that the transition period of the e-visa process has been extended until 31 December 2014. This means that during the transition period from now until 31 December 2014, Turkish visas can be obtained both online and at the port of entry”.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office have issued warnings against travellers using websites that charge for information about the visas and offer to submit applications saying 'These websites are not endorsed by or associated with the Turkish government. Be wary of such sites and businesses, particularly those that seek additional fees for other services.'
