Tour operator Minoan has negotiated a deal to put travel kiosks inside British post office locations.

Reports said on Thursday that Minoan Group had reached a deal with officials from the National Federation of Sub Postmasters, which will enable the travel firm to launch 1,000 of the mini-travel agencies over a period of five years.

The self-service devices will utilise touch screens and will allow customers to browse and purchase packages on the spot.

Minoan said that the initial launch will see about 50 of the kiosks put in place for a three-month trial scheme at market town sub post offices. The units will be branded as Postcard Travel, a subsidiary of Minoan Group.

Duncan Wilson, Minoan’s chief executive, said to media that the deal would allow the company to enjoy “complete national coverage”. He went on to say that the programme will provide the “very best” packages the company has to offer and is designed to function alongside “commercially-driven” postmasters that will direct customers to the kiosks.

The move comes amid substantial growth for Minoan Group; the firm recently got an extra lift via an £80m Crete resort project that has been fast-tracked by officials in Athens.
