Hundreds of travellers were stuck overnight at Glasgow airport amid a Border Force computer failure at the weekend.

The ordeal took place on Saturday evening when three inbound flights from Greek and Egyptian holiday destinations had just arrived. Reports said that all passengers onboard the planes were stuck behind immigration checkpoints because passport checks could not be carried out without the aid of computer systems.

Many of the travellers waited well into the early morning hours, until authorities were finally able to bring the system back online. However, it still took some time before the queues could be cleared, according to reports.

A spokesman later confirmed on behalf of the UK Border Force that the incident had been caused by a computer crash. Glasgow airport officials said to the BBC that all of the affected passengers had been cleared by Sunday morning.

One man told reporters that he was allowed to move to the front of the queue when the problem was finally fixed because he was traveling with his baby. He added however that it was still around a half an hour before they were able to get through and said many of the passengers had become angry and unruly during the ordeal.
