Leeds Bradford airport is now Monarch Airline’s sixth operations base in the UK.

Last week saw the firm commence a dozen new routes from the Yorkshire gateway, which according to the carrier entail the creation of 200 jobs for the region, according to a press release.

Among the firm’s new flights from Leeds Bradford are two weekly return journeys to Larnaca, Tenerife, Barcelona and Dalaman, as well as three weekly return flights to Munich and Faro. Additionally, the carrier will operate four weekly return journeys to Munich.

“The strategy for Monarch Airlines is now firmly focused on its scheduled services and we are delighted to add Leeds Bradford as our sixth UK base,” said Monarch’s marketing head James Massey. He went on to add, “The launch of Leeds Bradford as a base for the airline has the potential to create around 200 jobs within the local area and will provide a gateway for inbound tourism with an estimated 20,000 EU passengers travelling from Europe to West Yorkshire”.

James Broughton, head sales and marketing executive for Leeds Bradford airport, added, “We are pleased to welcome a Monarch base at Leeds Bradford Airport for Summer 2013. Monarch’s extensive route network will deliver increased destination choice for leisure travellers flying to and from Yorkshire”. He went on to say, “It is tremendous news for the Leeds City Region and we look forward to a successful relationship with Monarch”.
