A recent survey has shown that many Britons are making summer travel plans centred on the London Olympics.

The survey, conducted by UK flag carrier British Airways, has revealed that in excess of 40 per cent of Britons said they have arranged their summers to ensure they will be at home during the Olympic period in the effort of supporting local athletes.

The report even showed that up to 10 per cent of British travellers had cancelled trips and another 10 per cent have not booked a summer holiday so that they can attend Olympic events.

Meanwhile, figures from respondents in Northern Ireland showed that a whopping 89 per cent of some 2,000 respondents said that they would be willing to alter their arrangements in order to watch the Olympics. In contrast, 39 per cent of Londoners said they would consider doing so whilst about 45 per cent of those surveyed in the East Midlands said they would change plans.

Among other statistics, the survey showed that just over half of Britons aged 18 to 24 said the best way to show support was to attend the games in person, whilst just under half of respondents 55 and older said that the best method of support was to watch the events on television.
