A poll recently published by Age UK Enterprises has shown that almost a third of all travel insurance policies purchased in the United Kingdom last year were bought by travellers at least 80 or older. Similarly, world travellers between 70 and 74 years of age accounted for around 20 per cent of all cover sold whilst those aged from 65 to 69 purchased a similar amount.

Officials from Age UK Enterprises said that over the last several years the organisation has seen the sales of trip cover to travellers 50 years old or older rise by some 20 per cent. The group also noted that Europe is the top destination worldwide for older tourists with more than 50 per cent of older customers booking cover for European ventures.

Gordon Morris, Age UK’s managing director, said that his group feels it is wrong for many travel cover providers to impose age limitations for policies. He said all people should be able to fulfil their travel dreams, no matter their age.

The survey also revealed that the winter months are the least popular time for breaks among older travellers, with January seeing the flattest bookings of all, whilst bookings tend to peak in the summer months.
