British holidaymakers are statistically at the highest risk of having to claim on their health insurance during trips to Turkey and Spain. The findings come in the results of a new survey by Bupa.

At the top of the risk list is Spain, where Brits on travel face the greatest chance of having to make claims on travel insurance. Bupa released their latest statistics that show the countries in which British travellers are considered most likely to have to claim on travel cover for health problems.

The health insurance provider has also released a top-ten list of the conditions most likely to hit UK nationals during their holidays. Swimmer’s ear, a painful condition that typically hits young people and children, leading to a troubling infection, is the leading health issue causing Brits to claim on insurance while travelling in Spain.

Nearly a fifth of insurance claims came from holidaymakers in Spain. Though it sees far fewer British visitors, Turkey was second and was responsible for more than 10 per cent of claims.

The USA and Greece come next in the table. Thailand and Egypt sit close to the bottom end of the top ten list, each producing less than three per cent of insurance claims for health-related issues. The range of other medical conditions typically contracted by holiday makers who then claim on insurance includes upset stomach, broken bones and insect bites.
