UK nationals booked aboard British Airways flights from Tunisia could be stuck in the violence-hit country until next Wednesday. BA operates regular weekly flights between Tunis and Gatwick on Mondays. Those passengers that cannot make the Monday flights could fly on Wednesday.

The airline said seats were still open on the next midweek flight out of Tunisia for Gatwick. Over the past weekend, UK tour companies feverishly repatriated about 3,000 customers following an escalation in political violence in Tunisia on Friday.

Many passengers have been scrambling to get home as soon as possible. Some say earlier flights were filled up. They report that BA told them Monday’s flight had no more room left.

Many of the travellers have run out of funds while they try to find a quick way home. Frantic calls to the airline have depleted the credit on many Britons’ mobile phones.

British Airways said it was continuing to watch the situation carefully but that it was still operating regular flights to Tunis. Customers who are scheduled for travel over the next 72 hours have three main options. They can choose rebook their flight to a new destination, to delay their trip, or request a ticket refund.

Please note: until the situation stabilises, travel to Tunisia will not be covered by CheapTravelinsurance.com.
