Recently trips to Florida fell of the map for Britons as the dollar slowly grew against our currency. One tour operator claimed that bookings to Florida were up 48 per cent month on month from June of last year, in comparison to the same for May where bookings were down by 8 per cent.

The pound has slowly been gaining momentum against the US dollar and there has been an 11 per cent rise going from $1.48 to $1.65 for only one British pound. Florida has long been a firm favourite with last minute tourist looking for a good bargain.

“Understandably the holiday market is much more price sensitive than in recent years, but still this responsiveness to exchange rates is remarkable. If the pound continues to rally against foreign currencies, we believe this upward trend will continue,” said Trevor Davis, retail distribution manager for Co-operative Travel.

While the US is doing good for British tourists countries closer to home like Spain and France were still down in June, as Brits are looking for where their currency will be worth more. Late booking to Egypt have jumped by 25 per cent and Turkey is still hanging in with no big rise or fall.
