Just one of the possibilities of Virgin’s tourist space travel programme is that long haul travel could well become a thing of the past. The usual mundane stop over when travelling long distances could be ended and you could actually reach your destination in less time than it takes to check in and go to departures.

Tourists going into space are only the tip of the iceberg with the possibilities of Virgin Galactic. There are “many advances” to the programme, said Will Whitehorn president of Virgin Galactic, such as space science and computer server farms.

Over 25 million pounds has already been received in deposits from tourists keen on going into the next frontier, including world famous physicist Stephen Hawking and formula one driver Rubens Barrichello. “I became a racing driver, which involves getting a fast car, but I want to see up there how fast it goes,” added Rubens at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Along with space travel comes the subject of the environment and how it will affect the earth and its atmosphere. However Virgin claims that their spaceships will be a lot lighter so they will need less fuel and will be taking off from jet carriers in the air which will be more sustainable than the normal method of a rocket launch from earth.
