Serious weather forecasters are predicting good winter snowfalls throughout Europe. There have been some early snowfalls across the Alps, the Pyrenees and the Balkans with northerly winds blowing directly out from the Arctic.

There has been a snowfall of more than 1.5m in Saas Fee in Switzerland and more than 1.2m in Hintertux in Austria. Unfortunately, France has so far missed out on any real snow.

The North American Rockies and upstate New York have also seen some early season falls.

Winter sports fans are feeling optimistic about the possibility of a good season especially during the Christmas period after such a good beginning. Although pre Christmas snowfalls rarely last for too long except at the very highest levels.

Forecasters predict that in Europe in late November and December there will be heavy but short lived snowfalls and it will be very cold. January is predicted to be much milder and wet with more snow in February and March.
