The surcharge reductions will range from $US4 to $US15 on the carrier’s flights from Singapore to Australia and New Zealand, to Southeast Asia and East Asia, and to North America, Europe and South Africa.

Fuel surcharges will also be reduced for passengers in economy and business class on the airline’s flights operating between Dubai and Istanbul, Dubai and Moscow and between Bangkok and Tokyo, according to a statement issued by Singapore Airlines.

The airline’s passengers who travel in first class will pay fuel surcharges that range between $US36 and $US100.

In its comments regarding the decision to reduce fuel charges in economy and business classes but not in first, the airline said: "This is to fairly impute fuel related cost since the space occupied and weight utilised in each class is different."

The reductions will be effective with tickets that are issued from 7 November, the airline noted.

SilkAir, the Singapore Airline regional subsidiary, will also be cutting surcharges on tickets in economy and business classes from the 7th of November.

The airline’s surcharge cuts follow the decline in the price of oil, which has been dropping since its high of $US147 in July.
