HSBC Insurance is rolling out a new and revolutionary ‘green’ travel insurance plan, and has partnered with Hong Kong Polytechnic University to provide a means for its customers to participate in an air pollutant reduction programme, designed to counteract the pollution that results from air, sea and land travel.

The scheme is called ‘Let’s Travel Green,’ and resulted from research that was conducted by HBSC Insurance regarding the perception of its Hong Kong customers – and their attitudes and preferences – related to ‘green’ travel. The results of the survey showed that 60 per cent of those who responded are aware of their travel causing carbon dioxide emissions, and that 32 per cent are interested in taking action to offset this.

Beginning now, and for the next two years, HSBC Insurance customers who either buy or renew their travel insurance policies will become members in the HSBC Insurance ‘green travel’ promotion, and one per cent of the premiums they pay will be donated to the ‘Let’s Travel Green’ project.

This ‘green’ initiative involves the production and use of a carbon-neutral insulation material called ‘eco-block’ that was invented by researchers at Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
