Tenerife, the largest of the seven Canary Islands hosts around five million tourists each year and many come to enjoy one of the world's largest carnivals, the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Its capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a must for tourists looking for a cultural twist to their visit.

It has beautiful architecture dating back to the 17th century and a mix of styles from Canarian to Baroque, including the Calle Castillo, Calle Viera y Clavijo and Banco de España . There is also an one of Spain’s most beautiful theaters, The Guimerá Theatre dating back to the 1850’s and popular with opera lovers.

Tenerife has the oldest university in the Canaries dating back to 1792 and its former capital city, San Cristóbal de La Laguna is now a World Heritage Site, it also has El Teide which is the third largest volcano in the world. The Teide National Park is the second most visited national park in the world.

A great winter holiday destination, Tenerife is on latitude of the Sahara Desert so enjoys a balmy climate controlled by the humid trade winds and experiences very little rain. Tourism plays a very important part in the economy of Tenerife with UK tourists being top of the league.

The southern part of Tenerife is the most popular with tourists; it is the hotter part and has popular tourist resorts such as Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas. The Las Américas-Los Cristianos area offers vistor world-class shopping centres, golf courses and water parks which are popular for those on family seaside holidays. Puerto de la Cruz, the greener part of the island retains some of its original old harbour and is a popular Tenerife tourist attraction.
