Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort Guide

About the Resort

This resort is best travelled by car as there is little by way of a base and the resort is spread along a stretch of highway. Mammoth Mountain is not a particularly large resort but is pleasantly designed and has lovely views. There are two lift bases at the base of the mountain which joins the town. The major base is called Canyon Lodge which has hotels and condos and four chair lifts and a minor base called Eagle Lodge has a six pack lift. Main Lodge is a mini resort with three fast lifts and a large day lodge but is some distance from the main resorts restaurants.

About the Mountains near Mammoth Mountain

With its snow sure peaks and extensive snow making facilities, it has a long season and is often still open for business in July! The resort is often the victim of high winds which can cause problems higher up and mapping is a bit eratic. Expert skiers will enjoy the steep bowls that run the width of the mountain top. Intermediates will take advantage of the lower mountain below the tree line where there are lots of cruising opportunities. Beginners will be able to make the most of the gentle green runs once they have graduated from the nursery slopes.

Après Ski at Mammoth Mountain

The scope of cuisine available is as you might expect in the US with a good choice of menus. There are over 50 restuarants scattered across the resort to suit all budgets. The choices include Swiss food, fish, Thai, Japanese and Mexican. The apres ski is most lively at the weekends with a choice of bars and night clubs.
