Switzerland Ski Resort Guide for Wengen

Wengen Ski Resort Guide

About the Resort

This is a charming resort which is almost entirely traffic free. It has some of the most magnificent scenery in the Alps. It is opposite Murren and reached by a cog railway which doubles up as the main lift. The main street is short and lined with shops and hotels. It has an ice rink and the village nursery slope can be found here.

About the Mountains near Wengen

Its claim to fame is the Lauberhorn Downhill course which is the longest and one of the toughest on the World Cup circuit. Parts of it are open to the public. The area is quite limited for expert skiers unless you are looking at the Lauberhorn circuit. The major part of the resorts slopes are taken up by gentle blues and reds which keep the intermediates happy. The nursery slope although convenient, suffers from the areas lack of snow reliability at times.

Après Ski at Wengen

There are plenty of mountain restaurants to choose from and some are pricey. The choice of food is good and take away options are available. The Apres ski scene varies from quiet and unassuming to the more livelier venues open until late. There are discos and live music venues and a cinema often showing English language films.
