This is a long established resort. It has spread out over the years. It has stunning views from its peaks and glaciers. Chamonix is a bustling town with lots of scores and restaurants and a lively saturday market. The car free centre of town is full of atmosphere with cobbled streets and squares.
About the Mountains near Chamonix
There are 11 areas within the Chamonix valley and are within small, low, beginners or are much higher up, above the wooded slopes that plunge to the valley floor reached by cable car or gondola. It is a freat resort for the expert skier with ungroomed black pistes which are exhillarating. Intermediates will find a good smattering of runs and even the less timid are well catered for. Beginners should perhaps learn elsewhere.
Après Ski at Chamonix
The mountain restaurants are table serviced and self service, some with amazing views. The top hotels all have great restaurants. The apres ski is lively and a good choice of bars and discos make it very popular with the younger crowd.
