Banff Ski Resort Guide

About the Resort of Banff

This is a popular resort with British skiers. It is considered to be a beautiful destination with stunning scenery and plenty of wildlife. The resort is an all year round destination and the winter season is cheap in comparison with other winter sports resorts. The town of Banff consists of a long main street and a small netowrk of side roads. The shops are plentifull and include fashion boutiques, tourist shops and a few ski shops. If you are not staying in nearby Sunshine Village, your accommodation will be a bus ride away from the slopes. There are plenty of hotels and self catering apartments to choose from.

About the Mountains near Banff

Most of the skiers will buy a three area pass and that includes time at Lake Louise, 45 mins away, Sunshine Village has slopes set on the Continental Divide, which means it is prone to the cold as it is above the tree line. Newquay is a smaller area which has wooded slopes to suit all abilities and can be almost deserted. Experts will find plenty to keep them happy in all areas. Sunshine has more than enough open runs and Newquay's two main lifts serve areas of black slopes. Intermediates will find that half of the runs on Sunshine are classed as intermediate and Newquay has a few challenging tree lined blues. Beginners will be happy with Sunshine's mid mountain sector and Newquay has a good nursery slope. Bannf is not the ideal area to learn if you are with a mixed group as there will not be enough to keep you all going.

Après Ski at Banff

Mountain restaurants are quite good and offer a good choice of food. Some are self service. The resort itself has over 100 restaurants from fine dining to burgers. There's also live music venues and line dancing.
