World Cup Travel Check List

Consider taking out the correct travel insurance

Travel Insurance News - 27/05/2014

Now that all of the tickets have been released for the World Cup competition in Brazil, anyone planning on travelling to any of the 12 cities in which the games are to take place should consider taking out the correct travel insurance.

The first thing to ensure is that the correct visa has been bought early. The visas will be issued from the Brazilian consulate once the correct paperwork has been produced, they will need to see the flight confirmation and up to date passport and this process can take as long as three weeks, anyone with World Cup game tickets will receive their temporary visa free of charge. Your travel insurance will not cover you if you do not provide the correct documentation at the airport.

Some football fans will have been lucky enough to have tickets for more than the odd game and will be travelling around in some of the most dangerous locations such as Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo, even a trip to the beach can result in a case of daylight robbery so keeping your wits about you will help! Any thefts will need to be reported to the local policy and a crime number will be required if you need to make a claim for theft.

If you are planning to travel around to more than one city, you may find that taking a flight is the best option. Road travel is not advised as the driving conditions and the ad hoc behaviour of locals may not be what drivers are used to! Once again you should check the level of cover on your policy as your travel insurance may not cover you for any interconnecting flights and if there are delays or cancellations, you could be out of pocket. Great care should be taken of any currency that you take with you and also any obtained from an ATM, card cloning, especially at airports, is very common and not all policies will cover you for the loss of money and will often have a high excess on this part of the policy.

  • Check that you have the correct visa in time for your trip.
  • Check your policy is for the correct geographical area.
  • Check that your policy will cover you for interconnecting flights if you are taking any.
  • Check whether your policy covers you for the sports and activities you are planning.
