A surprising set of recently released figures by ABTA show that even though more people are traveling with expensive equipment such as smartphones and tablets, fewer people actually use them to book their holidays using a mobile phone. The number of holiday makers booking their trips with a smart phone dropped by 3 per cent and those booking through a tablet dropped by one percent.

Perhaps not surprisingly the age group most likely to book using this method was the 16 to 24 year olds and the age group lease likely to book through their phone or tablet where the 65 years and overs. A spokesperson for ABTA said

“The vast majority of holidaymakers still rely on the PC when booking online,” said Bacon. “The gap appears to have widened between the number of people owning mobile and tablet devices and those using them to actually purchase a holiday.”

City breaks have seen a rise in popularity with 41 per cent of holidays booked during 2013 based around cities, the same number for beach holidays and only 5 percent of holidays were based around cruising with 6 per cent of holidays involving rail travel
