The current weather systems have started to cause problems for travellers using airports, particularly those based in the south of England. Passengers were already facing heavy delays and cancellations today after most of the country was coated in a blanket of thick early-morning fog. The onset of heavy rain will not help matters as dark clouds are expected over most of the country.

As the weather conditions declined and poor visibility set in, this led to disruption to flights at Heathrow, London City and Gatwick Airport. British Airways was amongst the many airlines affected.

A spokesman at Heathrow said that British Airways had been forced to cancel more than 6 flights due to the fog. He said 'there’s been fog this morning and there has been some disruption to flights at Heathrow, London City and Gatwick,’. He advised their passengers to check on their flight status at London City Airport with some journeys facing delays.

A London City spokesman said: 'Due to low visibility this morning, flights to/from London City Airport are experiencing disruptions.
