Travellers bound for the Channel Islands can once again sail via Condor Ferries from Weymouth port.

Officials from the ferry operator re-commissioned services from the Dorset harbour at 11:00 on Wednesday morning. Upon its arrival in the Channel Islands, nearly 100 people were on hand to welcome the service’s return to the local economy.

Condor was forced to discontinue all sailings from Weymouth last year when officials discovered major structural problems in the quayside. The local council has since spent nearly £3.4 million to fund repairs.

According to a Travel Weekly report issued midweek, the service has been sorely missed; Condor has booked nearly 70,000 passengers on the route through the remainder of the summer.

The total number of bookings more than doubled in the last few weeks, Condor’s head of sales and marketing Alicia Andrews told the media. Andrews went on to add that the company had always planned to re-launch Weymouth services once the port had been fully repaired.
