A new study has revealed that most Canadians are still opting to travel without trip coverage.

The news comes via a recent survey conducted by BMO Insurance, which revealed that less than 50 per cent of Canadians planning a summer holiday will be taking out coverage before setting out.

The figure comes despite the fact that nearly 83 per cent of Canucks have plans to travel over the summer travel season, many of which will heading abroad to the United States as well as South American and Europe.

BMO vice president Julie Barker-Merz said in a statement that although its great that so many Canadians are planning summer breaks that it is concerning that most will head out without buying ample protection. She went on to note that the cost of a broken leg in the United States can easily cost $20,000 and that emergency medical evacuation from Florida to Toronto could cost as much as $15,000.

Barker-Merz added that taking out proper travel insurance should be a high priority for Canadians just like packing sunscreen and other travel essentials.
