A family dog travelled all the way from the US to Ireland after it was mistakenly put on the wrong flight, last weekend.

According to an ABC World News report published on Saturday, Hendrix, a six-year-old Springer Spaniel, was supposed to fly from Newark, New Jersey, to meet his family in Phoenix, Arizona, on United Airlines.

However, Hendrix did not arrive at his scheduled time on Saturday night. Instead Hendrix’ owner Edith Lombardo-Albach said that she received a call from United saying that the dog would not be landing in Phoenix until the next day because he had mistakenly been sent to Shannon in Ireland instead of Arizona.

Lombardo-Albach told the media that she began crying at first because she thought the airline was going to tell her that Hendrix had died, but then almost fainted when she heard that he had been sent across the Atlantic. Upon arrival in Ireland, airline personnel said they cleaned and walked Hendrix before putting him back on the seven-hour flight to New Jersey. Edith said she then met him again in Newark for his layover before he was sent to Phoenix, but said he did not want to get back into his cage.

United has said it is investigating the matter and has offered a refund for the carriage of the dog.
