Winter storm Nemo is exiting the US East Coast, but not before having delayed thousands of airline flights.

Reports said on Sunday evening that the major Atlantic blizzard forced the cancellation of some 6,600 flights in the region at the weekend, marking one of the region’s biggest travel headaches since Hurricane Sandy made landfall over New Jersey in November.

Reports said that the storm left as much as three feat of snow in some areas of one of the continent’s most densely populated areas, with New York and Boston seeing some of the heaviest accumulation among major cities in the region.

Meanwhile, many passengers remain stranded after dozens of major airports in the region saw prolonged delays and cancellations over the past several days. JFK airport in New York as well as Boston’s Logan International were hit the hardest, according to reports, whilst Friday saw the highest number of total cancellations with more than 3,000 flights grounded.

Now the storm is moving out of the area, although more than 300 flights were cancelled on Sunday morning, according to Flight Tracker.
