Virgin Money has stepped up promotion for its Australia-based travel insurance policies.

This week saw the launch of the firm’s new character, Fortunate Frank, an animated world traveller that manages to go unharmed in on ongoing series of holiday disasters. The first of the advertisements were seen on Australian television on Sunday night.

The campaign marks the first major marketing effort for Virgin Money’s travel insurance programme, which was launched late last year. Officials from the company said that the firm is to spend 20 per cent more on marketing efforts in 2013.

Virgin Money Australia marketing director Danielle Williams said in a statement that her organisation is well aware that Australians are keen to travel on adventurous holidays. She said however that “even the best-laid plans” can go awry, and that Virgin Travel Insurance offers ample cover for numerous types of mishaps including unexpected medical emergencies, lost passports and luggage, as well as trip disruptions.

In addition to television, Fortunate Frank and other marketing initiatives will target social media outlets, as officials from the firm say that travel is one of the most common topics on Facebook, Twitter and other popular sites.
