British holidaymakers are heading to Greece in increasing numbers despite concerns that the nation is facing economic collapse.

The news came last week via a survey by Travelex, which showed that some four million travellers are expecting to leave the UK for a Greek holiday over the summer months in spite of the possibility that the Mediterranean economy may not receive another European bailout.

Figures from the report revealed that bookings for all-inclusive breaks to Greece were up by a third in May. This comes after travel operators opted to reduce prices dramatically as independent flight bookings to the country plummeted by some 30 per cent in recent weeks. Reports said that many trips have been discounted by as much as 60 per cent.

The survey showed that many travellers in fact chose Greece over alternative destinations due to the pound-euro exchange rate, which is currently exceptionally favourable for Britons. Around 20 per cent of travellers said they were not concerned whatsoever with the possibility of a collapse, whilst most others said that such worries were ‘mild’.

Travelex’s Elvin Eldic said that the figures reveal that Britons’ were clearly focused on scoring the best prices as opposed to whether or not Europe opts to bail out the Greek economy once more.

Meanwhile, experts say those travelling to Greece should make sure to take up trip insurance before setting out.
