British honeymooners die in Maldives accident

British couple Jonathon and Emma Gray have died in an accident while honeymooning in the Maldives.

A British couple have died after an accident involving a quad bike while on honeymoon in the Maldives. Jonathon and Emma Gray who were from West Yorkshire died near their resort, according to police on the popular holiday island.

The couple were found with injuries by the roadside at the islands’ Kuredo Island Resort and Spa at which they had been spending their honeymoon. The couple, both of whom were 25 years old, married in Ripponden, near Halifax, at St Bartholomew’s Church on 30 July.

The couple’s son, six-month-old Jake, was not in the Maldives with them. A third person who suffered injuries in the crash remains in hospital.

The pair were found injured at the roadside at their resort around 4am local time, according to police in the Maldives. The police headquarters has dispatched a special investigation team to the scene.

Mrs Gray was employed as a teacher in Holy Trinity Primary School. Reverend Martin Russel, governor of the school in Halifac, said she was extremely popular and enthusiastic and that she loved her students.

The Foreign Office (FO) has confirmed that it is aware of the couple’s death. A spokesperson from the FO said that it was providing consular assistance as well as liaising with local authorities and the police.
