Scotland’s hotels have enjoyed the best increase in both revenue and occupancy levels anywhere in the country. The positive news has been released by industry analysts.

Corporate advisors PFK say the number of people who checked into Scottish hotels was up by 7.7 per cent, year on year, in April. This compares very well to England, where the figure was up by just 1.4 per cent. Wales saw an increase of 3.2 per cent.

Scottish hotels also enjoyed a handy boost in revenues, with the 6.8-per-cent increase standing in marked contrast to England, where revenue across the hotel sector fell by 1.9 per cent over the same period. Wales enjoyed a marginal increase of 0.4 per cent.

The best city in terms of hotel guests was Edinburgh, where both revenue and occupancy levels rose by 12.1 per cent over April of last year. Glasgow, too, enjoyed a reasonable performance boost, with occupancy rates up by 3.9 per cent and revenues rising by 3.7 per cent. In Aberdeen, occupancy rates crept up by 0.4 per cent, while revenues were up 1.6 per cent.

Alastair Rae, partner in the real estate and hospitality unit at PFK, said the sector would certainly be pleased to see Edinburgh having enjoyed a return to pre-recession levels in April this year. He went on to say that Edinburgh remained the jewel in the sector’s crown. Mr Rae added that further news of considerable growth in the city’s hospitality sector testified to the confidence investors showed in the market.
