Police have questioned and released a man hold following a bomb alert that led to a Pakistan International airliner having to land in Sweden. The man was held by police as passengers exited the plane at Arlanda airport, which is near the Swedish city of Stockholm.

The Boeing 777, which was bound for Karachi in Pakistan, was carrying a total of 273 people from Toronto Canada. The Canadian man, said to be of Pakistani origin, was described as being in his 30s. A woman in Canada told authorities that a passenger on board the plane was thought to be carrying explosives.

A spokesman for the police in Stockholm said following question of the man, the prosecutor had decided to release him. According to officials, the jet was likely to resume its journey on Sunday.

According to reports, the pilot of the jet sought permission to make an emergency at Arlanda airport after he was informed of the apparent threat while flying in Swedish airspace. The plane was parked at the end of the landing strip and away from the airport’s terminal buildings while all people onboard were evacuated.
