A recent study shows the biggest rip-offs as far as British travellers are concerned are the charges for using their phones abroad, high baggage fees, and the poor exchange rates offered at airports. These are considered the most upsetting ‘hidden’ charges we face while abroad, and they can contribute to a poorer holiday experience.

By far the worst expense was deemed to be the cost of using a mobile phone while in another country. Things have gotten so bad that the European Union recently announced new regulations designed to limit the rip-off charges being levied for use of roaming voice and data services.

Closely behind the anger at mobile phone bills comes the frustration felt by Brits when they see how much they’ve been charged for using debit and credit cards abroad. The list of holiday charges aggravation is rounded out by baggage charges, the uncompetitive exchange rates offered at airports and hotels, and high fares for taxis and airport transfers.

These were the worst offenders on the list compiled in research conducted by Post Office Travel Money but travellers also listed some of their other holiday peeves. Bites and stings were said to be major holiday irritants. Dirty beaches and dirty seawater were two other big vacation annoyances.
