Russia, Italy and South Korea are among several nations that issued strong warnings to citizens over travel to Bangkok since bloody street battles erupted in the city's old centre on Saturday.

Clashes between government forces and protesters on Saturday left 858 people injured and 21 dead, including a foreign news cameraman. In the wake of the violence, several countries told their people to avoid the capital. Some said to avoid Thailand altogether, while others advised heightened caution and avoidance of Bangkok’s protest hot spots.

Russia, the Netherlands, Italy and South Korea warned citizens to avoid traveling to Bangkok. France, Singapore, Israel and Hong Kong said to be more careful or to avoid non-essential travel to the city. The US Embassy in Bangkok urged US citizens to maintain heightened vigilance and avoid protests.

Japan was today warning citizens already in Thailand to avoid Bangkok. Hiro Muramoto, a Japanese cameraman, died of a bullet wound in the violence on Saturday.

A few days earlier, China had told its citizens to postpone all travel to Thailand.
