December 21st proved to be a bad day for Eurostar with all its services suspended. The company has also issued advisories informing passengers that they may be unable to provide reliable services during Christmas. It has advised the passengers that do not essentially require traveling to change their dates or seek a refund. This move will hopefully ensure better services to passengers that have to travel during Christmas time.

Severe weather conditions in Northern France are blamed for the disruption of services by Eurostar. Last week rail lines were in severe disarray following the episode where 2000 passengers were trapped over night in the Chunnel.

Passengers were stuck for over fifteen hours on the 18th of December when four of Eurostar’s trains broke down. Anxiety among the passengers was very high with many panic attacks and fainting spells being reported. Unconfirmed reports also revealed that the German supermodel Claudia Schiffer was given preferential treatment, when a car picked her up. The car was apparently driven to her carriage from the end of the tunnel.

The Eurostar chief executive, Richard Brown believes that the breakdown in the tunnel was due to contrasting difference in temperatures. The cold temperatures borne by the railways in high speeds and the warm air in the tunnels created adverse working conditions for the trains. The company however stated that since the basis of the disruption is known, the company will ensure that such a situation does not occur again. The train has been reportedly fitted with added devices to ensure more secure and reliable services hence forth.
