If you’ve been putting off taking that dreamed about long-haul holiday because of cost concerns, now might be the perfect time for a rethink. According to travel industry experts, prices from long-haul trips are now between 30% and 40% less than they were last summer.

Mike Gooley, chairman of the tailor-made travel specialists Trailfinders said in a recent interview by The Telegraph: "I cannot imagine that the cost of long-haul travel and holidays can ever be lower in real terms than it is at this moment in time. At least this is one bright spot resulting from the downturn of the economy. It has forced all travel providers, particularly airlines, hoteliers and car hire companies, to pare their margins to the bone and offer exceptional value."

The price cuts are occurring right across the board, with terrific deals now available on flights, cruises, hotels and even meals in leading restaurants. Although many people have been pinching the pennies due to the current financial crisis and putting off taking a summer holiday, it is actually possible to enjoy a break without breaking the bank.

"British travellers are currently paying the same in fares as when we launched the airline 25 years ago," Virgin's president, Sir Richard Branson told The Telegraph. "If you have been wanting to take that trip to Australia, now is the time to do it. There are some unbelievable bargains out there."
