Iceland is now becoming a place to go for cheap holidays thanks to their economy.

Years ago Iceland was a holiday destination for those who had a few pennies in the bank to afford a £5 bottle of beer or what seemed like an extortionate rate for a low budget hotel room. Now your dreams of visiting the hot water springs and seeing the beautiful countryside on offer can come true.

“Holidaymakers looking for the best value holidays should choose destinations where they can get more for their pounds. This includes Iceland, which has been expensive to visit in the past, as well as Turkey and Kenya rated as the best buys in our cost of living surveys. But they should not waste these savings by buying currency at the airport, where they will pay commission and get a poor rate,” said Sarah Munro, head of Post Office travel services.

With the collapse of their banks, leaving quite a few Brits out of pocket, the Icelandic krona has fallen dramatically against the now stabling British pound. Compared to last year the pound has grown by over 40% and the 70,000 Britons who annually visit is expected to rise considerably this year.

How the pound sits now against the euro, dollar and Thai baht is not that inviting for places that are generally popular. So if you are planning a foreign holiday this year Iceland can give you more value for money than ever before.
